The topic of decorations is the last “big” thing to consider / think on and decide before your party / event is almost a go! I think we can all agree that decorations for any event, big or small, can be as limited or as elaborate as your budget, style and/or theme dictates. It is the “last touch” that will bring everything together, making an event aesthetically pleasing. Your eye will be guided by colors and textures throughout the space of the event making it “flow” seamlessly, tying your style and personality into one beautiful bouquet.

Flowers and greenery, candles and candelabras, fabric and light curtains, ribbons, petals, wood slices, metal structures, furniture and even paper products placed just the right way make the decorations cohesive, balanced and harmonious.

If your event is a character-themed party (like a Mickey Mouse birthday party) your job is fairly simple; the character itself “limits” you to the myriad of available decorations that are out there for you to choose from. You can go with invitations, banners, table centerpieces, signs, cake-toppers, popcorn boxes, birthday-hats, garlands, rosettes, photo-booth props, balloons, treat bags, place mats, streamers etc., The sky’s the limit in the variety of decorations that are inspired by a character and its colors (accessories of all types can complete a candy or food table in the theme’s colors!)

If your event is formal and/or for a larger crowd (like a wedding, christening, honoring), it might not be themed after a character (tho there are fantasy weddings based on novel characters) but more like a style, like boho-chick, classic, vintage, rustic etc or the place where the event takes place, like: winery, barn, beach. It goes without saying, that the styles dictate the decorations on their own; you just need to know the style well or get inspired from textures and places, pictures and other people’s stories or professionals’ experience.

Due to the meaning and importance of the event, usually decorations, even on a small scale, tend to use many floral elements and are complemented by candles, picture frames, chandeliers, glass/crystal/mirror or wood elements. It can be the simplest tho at the same time appropriate and complementary piece to our style, personality and budget! On the other hand it can be as elaborate and rich as we want and can afford!
