Holiday Series 2019 - «Paper Ornaments»

Following our previous blog post about the benefits of crafting with children (you can read all about it here), I’d like to showcase a few ideas and techniques that you can implement into this year’s crafting with your family.

From the early age of toddlerhood, and well into our senior years we can craft Christmas ornaments from paper. First, with the guidance of parents, grandparents, and teachers, kids will «taste» the excitement of creating, they will feel proud of themselves and after many years - when the paper ornaments of their childhood surface - the nostalgia will probably urge them to recreate those ornaments with their own children.

There are so many different ways, and so many different materials to make your own ornaments; but everyone has a bit of paper lying around right? From easy and effortless with as few «ingredients» as paper, scissors and ribbon/yarn, to as involved as using a cutting machine and SVG cutting files for designer programs or metal cutting dies the plethora of techniques you can apply is virtually unlimited.

The internet world is full of video tutorials and step-by-step instruction on how to make the easier paper ornaments. I’ve complied just a few below.

Still paper but with more involved techniques like print and cut, origami folding and quilling are these ornaments:

These are my favorite paper ornaments, that I’ve made for family, friends and our own Christmas tree. They’re all from the ever talented designer, Mary, at SvgCuts. (The individual pictures are click-through links to the appropriate kits.)

A handmade ornament is more than a decorative touch to your Christmas tree — it's a memory: one that is made with your kids and family, celebrating the season, and cherishing time together
